Dear Editor,

We are writing in response to your recent article titled “Peachtree City Clarifies the Kedron Pool Plans Amid Social Media Confusion.”

We are part of a group of local parents and residents who have come together out of concern for how a potential extended closure of the pool could impact our families and the broader community. Many of our children rely on this facility not only for competitive swimming, but also for recreation, fitness, and critical life-saving swim lessons.

To help keep the community informed and engaged, we created a Facebook group, “Keep Kedron Pool Open!.” Our goal has been to provide space where residents can access accurate information, ask questions, and stay involved as the City considers next steps.  We have also extended invitations to City Council members to join our Facebook group as a way to stay informed and engage directly with the community.

We want to be very clear that we have made a consistent effort to share only information that has been communicated directly by the City through emails, public meetings, and official statements. We have not stated that the pool will be permanently closed. Rather, our focus has been on understanding the potential impact of a temporary closure, particularly one that could last more than a year, and the current lack of local alternative facilities available to serve the community during that time.

We recognize that details such as timelines and scope have continued to evolve, and we appreciate the City’s efforts to provide updates. Because of this, it is especially important that the community stays informed and involved as more information becomes available.

At our recent community information session, we also focused on identifying potential solutions. These included ideas such as adjusting the project timeline to better align with swim season, and exploring whether other city pools, such as Glenloch Recreation Center or potentially other community pools, could be utilized with heating or operational adjustments to help maintain access during the closure.

We also note that the City’s 2025 Parks and Recreation Master Plan identifies the need for a new aquatic facility, which highlights the importance of both short-term solutions and long-term planning.

Our goal is not to oppose needed repairs, but to ensure that decisions are made with a full understanding of their impact, and with thoughtful consideration of solutions that minimize disruption, especially for the many families, students, and residents who depend on access to aquatic facilities.

Sincerely,

Keep Kedron Pool Open
