Neon Cleats and a Moment to Breathe

Easter season has officially taken over our house. One egg hunt barely wraps before the next round begins, and suddenly the kitchen counter turns into a full-blown trading floor of candy negotiations and surprise finds. It’s chaos in the best way.

At the same time, soccer season keeps rolling, with weekend game days being a highlight. There’s something special about watching your child run across the field in neon pink cleats, not just chasing a goal but learning how to work with a team, communicate, and enjoy the game. You can see the confidence building in real time. It’s been a blast to watch.

But in between the fun, there are those small moments where it all becomes a bit much.

Kids feel it. Adults feel it. Parents, business owners, managers. We all hit that point where everything stacks up at once. That’s not really even a flaw. It’s just biology.

When the brain senses pressure, the amygdala triggers a stress response. Heart rate rises, thoughts race, and suddenly even small decisions feel difficult to make. It’s a natural reaction, but it’s one we don’t always take the time to manage. That’s a big part of why we started Mindful Mondays at The Nexus.

For me, it’s personal. My brain is always moving. Thinking about what to create next, what to improve, what to fix. That kind of constant motion can be a strength, but without a reset, it turns into noise. Mindful Mondays create space to slow that down. They’re simple by design: a chance to center your mind and set a positive tone before the week takes off.

One of the practices I like to use is the 5-4-3-2-1 exercise. It’s quick, practical, and something you can do anywhere. You take a moment to notice five things you can see, four things you can hear, three things you can touch, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. It brings your focus back to the present and out of the swirl of everything else competing for your attention.

That reset sharpens the thinking and helps you show up better, whether that’s in a meeting, at your desk, or back on the sidelines cheering your kid on.

So, if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, or you just want to start your week with a little more clarity and positivity, join us for Mindful Mondays. We go live every Monday on Facebook, and it’s open to anyone who wants to take a breath before the week begins.
