Citizen of the Week – Amy Jenkins

In an extraordinary act of selflessness, Amy Jenkins didn’t hesitate to say yes when she saw someone in need—someone she hadn’t even met yet.

The Fayetteville resident and wife of Fayetteville Police Lieutenant Ben Jenkins was honored at a recent Fayetteville City Council meeting for donating a kidney to a retired Bartow County deputy, Brandon Pruitt. Jenkins and Pruitt had never met before their transplant surgeries in September—only knowing each other’s stories through a shared connection in public safety.

Jenkins first met Bartow County 9-1-1 Director Jessica Pruitt, Brandon’s wife, in 2022 through professional interactions. In 2024, Jenkins learned that Jessica’s husband was in urgent need of a kidney donor. Though she had never met Brandon in person, Jenkins felt moved to act.

The two families finally met in September, just two weeks before the transplant procedures took place. The surgeries were successful, and both donor and recipient are recovering well.

“Amy Jenkins’ actions demonstrated traits of our public safety community,” said Alan Jones, Special Projects Manager for the City of Fayetteville, during the council meeting. “She demonstrated courage, generosity, and a willingness to sacrifice for someone she had never even met.”

Jones added, “She saw a need and was happy to help a member of her extended public safety family. We are so proud to have Amy as our City family.”

Fayetteville Mayor Ed Johnson echoed the praise. “I am so proud of people like Amy Jenkins to represent our Fayetteville Police Department,” he said.

Jenkins’ story reminds us that heroes don’t always wear uniforms—but they do show up, give freely, and lead by example.
