Peachtree City Voters,

Do you ever wonder why the intersection of Highways 54 and 74 has been such a disaster for decades? Why has it taken more than 20 years and Mayor Kim Learnard to get it fixed? I’ll bet, like me, you only think about it when you’re stuck there waiting for the light to change… again.

This story goes back 24 years. Then local gadfly turned Mayor, Steve Brown, went to GA DOT and reportedly so angered the director of GDOT, the man responsible for all projects statewide, that the director closed the book on that intersection. Literally, he closed the book.

There was a plan, even then, to address the current and future traffic flow issues. Steve Brown killed that plan through his arrogance and his posturing and the city and all of you have suffered for the last 20+ years.

Make no mistake, when Steve Brown ran for reelection in 2005 he lost. He lost because the voters saw what he had done to the city, what he had done to the city staff and to the city’s reputation.

I know all this because I was there.  After 9/11, the Army reservist we were supporting for Mayor was recalled to active duty. The outgoing Mayor and another councilmember reached out and asked me to run in his place. They were concerned about the damage Brown would do to the city.  I was there for all of it and I saw the damage done.

Like you, I have sat through Steve Brown’s intersection for decades. It takes decades to undo the damage done by one clueless elected official, especially one who thinks he is better and smarter than everyone else. Don’t be fooled again. Steve Brown does not have your best interests or those of PTC in mind.

Reelect Kim Learnard
