Auburn Freshman Hollis Davidson III Arrested in Peachtree City, Faces Felony Drug Charge

As reported by CBS Sports and confirmed by the Peachtree City Police Department, Auburn freshman tight end Hollis Davidson III was arrested on July 28 and charged with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.

Lt. Chris Hyatt, Public Information Officer for the Peachtree City Police, said in a written statement, “There was a warrant taken for possession of a controlled substance, once we received lab results from an item we sent for testing during an earlier encounter with him this year.”

Police say that earlier encounter occurred on June 19, when officers approached Davidson near a closed business alongside a golf cart. Authorities reported finding loose marijuana in the cart and a THC vape pen on his person. According to Lt. Hyatt, the resulting lab test confirmed the vape pen contained a controlled substance, leading to the issuance of a warrant under OCGA 16-13-30a – VGCSA Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Davidson, a four-star recruit for the Tigers’ 2025 season, was released on a $5,000 bond the day after his arrest. Auburn University has suspended him for violating team rules.

This marks the third arrest of an Auburn football player since early July, following separate incidents involving linebacker D.J. Barber and wide receiver Malcolm Simmons.

    Would you be so sympathetic if he wasn’t a football player? They start learning in middle school that they can get away with just about anything if they play a competitive sport. Speaking as a retired teacher who was asked (ordered) to change many a grade or throw away a behavior referral.

    This is an example of unjust laws threatening to harm the life of an innocent person, and this article is carefully worded to blame the individual rather than the system which is needlessly harming that individual. This promising young man and talented athlete is facing a criminal charge for enjoying something that is legal in most states, and which harms no one. The only arguable victim in this “crime” is Holis himself, as he is the one consuming the substance. The headline should be “Barbaric Authoritarian Laws Against a Substance Which is by All Scientific Accounts Safer Than Alcohol and Tobacco Claim Another Victim”. And why do we enforce such laws? Two reasons, one is the Alcohol industry has the resources to bribe law makers to take it’s greatest potential competitor off the market, and the other is it allows for mass incarceration of non-violent people arbitrary for doing something that only potentially harms themselves and no one else. Imagine if Coca-Cola could have laws written that outlaw all pepsi products, so people found drinking a mug root beer would be charged and face prison time. That would be ridiculous, but over decades of propaganda, it could be normalized, as the Alcohol industry has normalized public fear of cannabis.
    P.S. For the police to send the vape into testing they would need to seize this citizen’s property, which is unconstitutional, and for all we know could have been personally motivated. It’s possible that the police who have harmed mr. Davidson’s career root for an opposing college team, and used their entrusted authority to sway the results of their next match in their teams favor. Im not accusing just saying the fact that police are given largely unchecked authority in who they target should be concerning, just as the idea of having personal property taken by police without any threat being posed to the community should be concerning.

    Something doesn’t make sense….how is possession of weed a felony?

      Georgia made THC oil / “vape pen” possession a felony a while back. Pretty ridiculous.

      The article states it was his 2nd offense and doesn’t say it only found pot? It states he was arrested for a schedule 1 controlled substance. In Georgia that includes Heroin,LSD, Ecstacy, and fentanyl. Under Georgia law possession of a schedule 1 drug is a felony punishment is a 2-15 years in prison for first oddense. Any reputable college would cut a player with this record.

    Really? This is what you want to blast out as a headline for “Breaking News”? Kids make mistakes all the time – adults too – but a kid getting caught with drugs, in a non-violent offense that didn’t affect anyone else – you want to blast this across your front page? This is more of a headline you’d expect to see in The Enquirer, not The Citizen. Do better. Your headlines are just clickbait, and it appears you’re just chasing clicks.
