This month’s Board of Commissioners meeting began with a video introducing the  Fayette County State Court interns, stating their year, fields of study, and what they looked forward to most as interns in the courtrooms- such as hands-on experience with the courtroom and building relationships with professionals in the judicial field.  High school students recognized included Taylor Bonner, Sheefa Keshawani, Ansley Nieber, Dominic DeGeorge, Hastee Mehdipour, Elizabeth Toth, Brandon Smith, and Keanu Macayan, while college interns included Maya Wilson, Thalia Tran, Sara Matthews, Isabel Bland, Madeline Sheffield, Nicholas Skipper, Liam Prouty, Taliah Chestnut, and Olivia Holm.  This summer, there are also two interns in law school: Madeline Sparks and Dennis Martinez.  Thompson also recognized former interns and members of the courthouse staff.

The county also considered a zoning ordinance amendments regarding a proposed animal crematorium, noting that the law provides guidelines for human crematoriums and animal cemeteries but not animal crematoriums.  Nothing of the sort is located in Fayette County, the closest animal crematorium being located in Fairburn, so this service is greatly needed in the county.

This meeting only featured one public commenter, who asked the county to to assist the elections office in finding a new place for voters in Tyrone to cast their ballot “so people can vote without getting heatstroke or worrying about a roof falling on their heads,” emphasizing the importance of making sure all citizens can safely vote, as well as raising concerns about recent fees on local water meters.  The board stated that they are working to address these concerns.
