SCTC Gears Up for 2025 Graduation Ceremony

Griffin, GA, March 19, 2025 Southern Crescent Technical College President Dr. Irvin Clark has announced that the College will host the annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church – North Campus in Fayetteville, Georgia.  The graduation ceremonies will honor nearly 500 credit and adult education graduates from Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025 semesters.

The speaker for the 10 a.m. ceremony will be Dr. Steve Ledbetter, County Manager for Spalding County, Georgia. In this role, Dr. Ledbetter is responsible for the professional management of all programs and activities under the Board of County Commissioners, overseeing departments such as Economic & Community Development Services, Finance, Fire and Emergency Services, Public Works, Human Resources, and Information Services. His leadership ensures that all county initiatives and policies are effectively implemented, fostering a thriving community. He began his professional journey as an air traffic controller in the U.S. Army, then served as a police officer in metro Atlanta, steadily rising through the ranks to a command staff position.

The speaker for the 2 p.m. ceremony will be Dr. Artesius Miller, Chairman of the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia.  Dr. Miller has worked for more than a decade to expand access to 21st century learning opportunities and career pathways for K-12 and college students across the state. His contributions to the success of students as Founder and CEO of Utopian Academy for the Arts Charter School Network (UAFA), Georgia’s first arts-focused public charter school system, have paved the way for children from low-income communities to earn full scholarships to Ivy League and other prestigious institutions, work as actors on Netflix shows, star in musicals at the Alliance Theatre, appear in Hollywood feature films, as well as to dance professionally with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and the Atlanta Ballet.

Clark stated, “We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of our graduates and thrilled to have two accomplished individuals and advocates for technical education address the graduates.  I understand the challenges, hard work and dedication that come with being a student at Southern Crescent Technical College, and we cannot wait to share in the excitement as each graduate reaches this most-important milestone in his or her educational journey.”
