The Mountain Lions sharpen their science skills with the help of some special friends. The Sara Harp Minter Elementary Science Olympiad team geared up for competition with their mentors from Whitewater High.

For the third year in a row, students in the Whitewater High Science National Honor Society volunteered to mentor Minter students as they prepared for competition. On Friday mornings the Mountain Lions were visited by their mentors with a goal to inspire and deepen the Science Olympians’ understanding of the content for their events. The high schoolers came prepared with hands-on activities and games to help strengthen what they were studying for the county competition.

Many of the mentors came out to support their friends at their big competition. Throughout the year they also share their love of science with the community through the Whitewater STEAM bus. That passion they passed on has helped carry past students into middle school where they are still competing in Science Olympiad.

Minter enrichment teacher Stacy McClanahan and 1st grade teacher Kristi Soong team up with Whitewater High science teachers Kathryn Dupree and Shelley Kozlowski to lead the collaboration of their students.

“Our collective goal is to inspire a love of all things science and to build relationships in our Whitewater community,” said McClanahan. “We are so thankful that our Whitewater students have the desire to develop relationships and mentor our Mountain Lions.”
