Mrs. Evelyn Bailey Farr, 90, passed away Sunday morning, March 24, 2024.

She was a teacher for thirty-three years in the Fayette County system, beginning as a substitute teacher, then working as a para-pro at Hood Avenue Elementary School.

Later she attended Clayton State College and West Georgia University and earned her bachelor, masters, and T-6 degrees in teaching and applied those skills to help remedial reading and math students reach state standards.

She was awarded a research prize for her work in the study of birth order in children and how it affected their learning. She taught for several years at North Fayette Elementary School. She leaves behind thousands of loving students and a legacy of awards and honors, including numerous “Teacher of the Year” honors.

Evelyn was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church and taught the five-year-old class for many years and would later welcome them back as high school or college graduates. She was an ageless beauty with a confident personality that led others to think that she was much younger than she was.

A devoted wife and mother, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, F.M. Farr, and several beloved chihuahuas. She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Jim) Hardin; son, Allan (Marina) Farr; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Evelyn was the most creative, imaginative, and loving woman one could want to be in their lives. She could always be found with a ball of thread and crochet hooks or knitting needles to make a blanket for the next new resident of the county. If she couldn’t find instructions for what she wanted to make, she made it up and it was always better than any pattern. It was told many times that she could jump from an airplane with thread and a crochet hook and have stitched a parachute before landing safely.

She was a devoted Christian and lived her life to the fullest every day. She was an angel on Earth and now an angel in heaven, and the hole she leaves in every heart can never be filled.

Evelyn’s funeral service will be Friday, March 29, 2024, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Rev. Jim Battles and Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Visitation will occur prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Evelyn will be laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Gardens following the service.

Evelyn’s favorite flowers were pansies. Please wear pansy colors to the service to remind all of her love for flowers and joy of bright colors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Evelyn’s honor to Fayetteville First Baptist Church Homebound Ministry.

We welcome you to leave your condolences, thoughts, and memories of Evelyn on our Tribute Wall.
