Thanks to the generosity of McIntosh High students, children will have a sturdy new bed to sleep in at night.
Over their winter break, students from McIntosh business classes, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and other career technical organizations volunteered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The organization provides beds for children ages 3-17 in Fayette County who are in need.
The Chiefs helped build 41 beds during their service work. They sanded, drilled, and stained lumber to help prevent bed bugs.
Teacher Allen Beall wants students to see how rewarding service is, not only for others but also for themselves.
“There are people in our community who are in need and have to make difficult decisions on whether to provide beds, clothing, and other items we can easily take for granted,” he said. “As a father, it is heartbreaking to think of a parent having to tell their child that they cannot provide a bed for their child because they have to pay the rent or keep food on the table.”
The message resonated with a large group of Chiefs who were willing to give up half a day of their winter break to help others in our community.
“It was an awesome day of service,” said Beall. “The students of McIntosh are generous, loving, and caring, and I am proud to see them grow into amazing leaders in our community.”
