Four local hoops teams win region crowns

The state basketball playoffs will be filled with Fayette teams after 8 squads punched a postseason ticket, including four region champions.

In Class 3A, the defending state champion Sandy Creek boys won the region for the seventh-straight season. They enter the playoffs as a 1 seed and host Stephens County in round one of the state playoffs.

The Lady Patriots are a 3 seed. They travel to Oconee County.

In Class 5A, the McIntosh boys won the region for the second-straight season. They enter the playoffs as a 1 seed and host Jones County in round one.

The Lady Chiefs are a 3 seed. They travel to Jones County.

In Class 4A, the Fayette County boys won the region for the fourth year in a row. They enter the playoffs as a 1 seed and host Westover.

The Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers won the region and are a 1 seed. They host Westover in round one.

Rounding out 4A, the Whitewater boys are a 4 seed. They travel to play Bainbridge. The Fayette County Lady Tigers are a 2 seed. They host Shaw.

The Starr’s Mill boys and Whitewater girls did not earn a playoff spot.
