17-year-old attempts car hijacking, police arrive and cuff him

Peachtree City police officers thwarted an attempted car theft and took the teenager allegedly responsible for it into custody.

According to reports, officers responded the evening of Dec. 22 to a suspicious person call. The suspect was seen attempting to steal a vehicle and struggling with the victim. Officers arrived on scene and took him into custody.

Daniel Jackson, 17, of Atlanta was charged with felony motor vehicle hijacking as well as obstruction of an officer, marijuana possession and battery, according to the jail log.

Another wayward teen was apprehended after a moving violation led to a Dec. 25 traffic stop near Ga. Highway 74 and Senoia Road. The suspect responded by increasing speed and making evasive attempts to flee from law enforcement. This included several erratic lane changes at a high rate of speed before coming to a stop near Market Place Boulevard, according to the report. A search of the vehicle located items indicative of marijuana distribution as well as a handgun.

Aahmad Leverette, 17, of Ellenwood faces felony charges of theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude and drug possession/sale/manufacture along with nine traffic violations, according to the jail log.

Elsewhere in Peachtree City, officers conducted a traffic stop Dec. 23 in the area of Hwy. 54 and Robinson Road. While speaking with the driver, they noticed several indications of impairment, according to the report.

The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Nicole Bryant, 40, of Riverdale. Upon arrival at the county jail, a female officer located illegal drugs in her possession. She faces a drug charge as well as crossing the guardline with contraband, both of which are felonies. Other charges include DUI of alcohol and three traffic violations.

At about 10 p.m. Dec. 22 an officer made contact with a red golf cart in the area of Crosstown Drive and McDonald’s. The golf cart crossed over Crosstown Drive at the McDonald’s exit and did not use the marked golf cart crossing in front of Cube Smart, according to the report. Luis Ortiz, 73, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Fayette County Jail.

In the wee hours of Dec. 24 an officer noticed a golf cart on the path crossing recklessly over Riley Parkway without showing due regard for the traffic on that road. A traffic was conducted and Nicholas Hamby, 41, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to jail.
