Three men are in custody following a pursuit of their stolen vehicle and a subsequent manhunt.

According to a statement by Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb, deputies located the stolen vehicle Sept. 15 at about 5:20 p.m. leaving the QuikTrip near Hwy. 85 and Corinth Road. As they approached the area, the suspects fled in the vehicle.

The chase continued until the suspect driver lost control of the vehicle near River Mist Drive. At that point the three occupants fled on foot, prompting an immediate response from the Fayetteville Police Department’s K9 Unit. A comprehensive search between both law enforcement agencies resulted in the suspects being located and apprehended by 5:50 p.m.

The suspects are: Marcus Morris, 21, of Riverdale; Brian Reynolds, 20, of Riverdale; and Derrick Strong, 20, of Atlanta.

According to the Fayette County Jail log, all three face a variety of charges that include a felony count of theft by receiving stolen property along with lesser charges of obstruction of an officer and a seat belt violation. Reynolds was also charged with fleeing/eluding law enforcement — a felony — as well as passing on a solid yellow line, reckless driving, and no driver’s license.

“The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office commends the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork displayed by all the units involved in this operation,” said Babb. “Their swift response and coordinated efforts ensured the safety of the community and the successful resolution of the incident.”
