Qualifying is now open through Friday, Aug. 25, at 4:30 p.m. for candidates to qualify to run for Post 1 and Post 2 on the Peachtree City Council.

Those posts are now held by Phil Prebor (Post 1) and Mike King (Post 2). Both are serving out the final months of their second 4-year term and — per city code — cannot run for or serve another term as council member.

What to know about the elections:

The terms for Post 1 and Post 2 end December 31, 2027.

The municipal election will be Nov. 7, 2023 (plus advance voting).

The qualifying fee for a Council Post is $432.  This is 3% of the annual 2023 salary for these seats and is the minimum amount required by State law.

Qualifications: A candidate must be at least 21 years old, registered, and eligible to vote in the election, and must be a Peachtree City resident for at least six months prior to the election.

Pay: City Council members receive $14,400 per year in monthly installments.

  1. I will not run for political office, I won’t even walk. If enough readers endorse my opinions about governing a small municipality, I will take up my sword and complete an application.

Before the thousands of you do endorse my candidacy, you should know that I do not think I can do as good of a job as our two retiring City Councilmen. They fought (literally) to keep: from extending TDK into Coweta County, control of our Water and Sewage Aurhority, our right to redress our city’s plans and actions. Sure, I did not, and still do not, agree with many things in our city government, but that’s okay. They have maintained integrity while governing Peachtree City and I look at them as great american patriots.
