McIntosh students win in Juneteenth Poetry Contest

A trio of Chiefs shared their craft in the Juneteenth Youth Poetry Contest hosted by the Fayette County Historical Society.

McIntosh High students claimed the top three spots. Emily Chen won 1st place with Luke Soule in 2nd and Mia Negrete in 3rd.

This year’s theme was “Hope for a brighter tomorrow.” The contest was open to all high school students in Fayette County with cash prizes awarded to the top three poets.

All three were invited to read their poems at the Juneteenth celebration on June 19 on the old courthouse lawn in Fayetteville.
