Southside Theatre Guild Presents ‘The Odd Couple,’ Apr. 27-May 7.

When Felix Unger’s marriage breaks up, the only place he knows to go to is his friend Oscar
Madison’s apartment. The two friends become roommates and soon realize they are very
different people. Audiences have been laughing at the antics of uptight Felix and slovenly Oscar since 1965 when Walter Matthau and Art Carney starred in the original Broadway production. Since then it has been a popular film, with Matthau and Jack Lemmon, and a television series with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. Southside Theatre Guild is proud to have Neil Simon’s classic comedy as part of its 50th anniversary season.

“The theater originally produced this play in 1982 and the cast is having a great time at
rehearsals as they bring this play to life,” said director Heather May. “Several of the cast
members have done numerous shows together and already have great chemistry, but the real joy has been welcoming some new members to the Southside stage and making some new friends.”

As part of the 50th season, opening night for each show will feature ticket prices from when the show was first produced at the theater. That means tickets for the performance on Thursday, Apr. 27 are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Regular ticket prices are $20 for adults and $12 for children under the age of 12. Performance times are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, May 6 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 29 and both Sundays.

“Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the theater has been so much fun this year,” said May.
“We’ve reconnected with former castmates and visited with audience members who have been coming to performances since the very beginning. At each performance though, there are often a few people who had never seen a show at our theater before and it has been wonderful to give them a proper introduction.”
