As part of Exceptional Children’s Week festivities, 10 Extra Special Educators were honored for their dedication to helping students realize their full potential in a safe and supportive environment.

The winners are Derryale Barnes-Fielder (Bennett’s Mill Middle), Meghan Mills (Braelinn Elementary), Jacob Winslett (Whitewater Middle), Linda Shaw (Transportation), Jessica Weaver (Oak Grove/Sara Harp Minter Elementary), Ashley Smith (Crabapple Lane Elementary), Sparkle Stanford (Cleveland Elementary), Elaine Wingfield (Peeples Elementary), Emily Stallings (Whitewater High), and Sonya Griffin (Mainstay).

Principals and district Exceptional Children’s Services (ECS) staff submitted nominations to help choose 10 Extra Special Educators who go above and beyond to include our students with disabilities.

Exceptional Children’s Week is a time to celebrate our exceptional children, to recognize and acknowledge their contributions, and to share appreciation for all the educators and parents who love and support them.

This year’s theme was “Power in Our Differences,” which highlights the importance of diversity and inclusion in our schools and communities.
