The Cardinals let their imagination run wild when all the 1st graders at Crabapple Lane Elementary created their very own maps.
David Kinrade, a parent of one of the school’s teachers, shared his lifelong love of all things maps with the Cardinals. David shared map skills the students could use to make their own imaginary lands, just like he did as a kid.
Students reviewed the compass rose, the purpose of a map, and the symbols used in mapmaking to display information in a graphic form, then got to work on their own designs.
Teacher Dana Fairrel hopes the Cardinals had fun putting their knowledge to use.
“We hope students took away an understanding of the purpose of maps, the knowledge of how to draw a map of their choice, and the information of correct map-making skills.”
