Shaneil Smith is ready for high school. Smith, an 8th grader at Whitewater Middle, just completed the “100 Books Before High School” reading challenge.

The event is a multi-year personal reading challenge sponsored by the Fayette County Public Library where middle schoolers are tasked with reading 100 different books before high school. At the 25, 50, and 75 marks, readers receive free books and bookmarks to encourage them to keep going. By hitting 100, Smith earns a High School Survival Kit full of supplies to get her ready for her next educational journey.

WMS teacher Valerie Mallon and media specialist Dr. Becky Warren supported Smith throughout the process and helped her finish the mammoth task.
