Local attorney David Ballard has announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for newly-created Georgia House District 74, which includes large parts of Fayette and Spalding Counties, as well as the City of Hampton in Henry County.
David contends his background and his interactions with thousands of citizens over the last ten years solving their legal problems has uniquely prepared him to serve as our state legislator.
David’s candidacy is anchored on the principle that elected officials must provide effective and attentive representation for every citizen. David believes everyone matters, whomever they are and wherever they live.
To this end, if elected, David will hold town hall meetings throughout the district to better understand the unmet needs of the community and community priorities. The opinion of citizens will be greatly valued and allow David to respond in real time to high priority issues. Topical issues, such as voting rights will be critical, and David will fight to guarantee your right to vote in fair and secure elections.
Other platform considerations are the promotion of free markets and low taxes to grow the local economy and promoting a skilled workforce by supporting our local community colleges and technical schools.
As an attorney, David understands the importance of defending all of our civil liberties, including all of our constitutional rights. David’s experience with the judicial system has also allowed him to understand ways we can strengthen our courts to better combat criminal street gangs and drug addiction.
As a parent, David is keenly aware of the need for families to know what is being taught and promoted in our schools. David is for full transparency in our public schools and for school choice. David realizes that beyond high school, we must support our local community colleges and technical schools to secure economic opportunity for individuals of all interests and ages.
David will act as a champion for the most vulnerable members of our community, including the unborn, individuals with special needs, and at-risk youth.
David is a 2003 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School in Fayette County. After graduating high school, David attended the University of Georgia in Athens where he earned a Master of Public Administration and a law degree.
In addition to representing thousands of individuals and businesses as a local attorney, David has served as an adjunct instructor at Georgia Military College in Fayetteville. He has also volunteered in many capacities including his past service as the President of the Fayette County Bar Association, his membership in the Peachtree City Rotary Club, serving on the board of Two Sparrows Village-Christian City, and serving the board of Griffin-based startup Special Kids-Special World. David also serves as the city attorney for the Town of Woolsey.
David is married to Brittany Ballard. They have three children and reside in Brooks. They attend New Vision Church in Inman.
