The state is taking notice of a talented scribe. Ella Carter of Inman Elementary has been named the 1st grade state-wide winner in the 2022 Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition.

Carter’s story, “Blowpop Wrappers,” is a mystery about a dog and his owner, Ella, finding blowpop wrappers all over their barn. The dog and the horses in the barn work tirelessly to find out who did it!

The writing contest, sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors and the Georgia RESA Network with support from the Georgia Department of Education, is open to students in grades K-12 and includes all types of writing such as short stories, poetry, essay, research reports, and other forms. The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics.

Carter’s story was picked as the best among 16 regions competing at the state-level.

Carter’s 1st grade teacher Kim Baxter is very proud of her student.

“She’s amazing!”
