Everyone at Peachtree City Elementary is on the same page. As part of the “One Book, One School” initiative, all 500 students at PCES will be reading “The World According to Humphrey” by Betty G. Birney.

Students are invited to read a chapter each night with their families from the story about a classroom pet, or they may also listen to a digital recording of a teacher reading the night’s chapter aloud. Fifteen PCES teachers donated their time to read aloud a chapter so that parents and students could listen in each night over the next two weeks. Class discussions and trivia opportunities will happen each day at school.

To get the fun started, Assistant Principal John Gibbas delivered books to each classroom. He was accompanied by three student ambassadors, as well as Peanut Butter, his own pet guinea pig, and Peanut Butter’s personal handler, his son Tim.

Media specialist Dr. Amanda White can’t wait to get started.

“This is our first year participating with ‘One Book, One School,’ and we’re all excited to be part of one giant book club together!”
