Kindness leads Minter to animals in need

Mountain lions in the wild are fierce predators, but the Mountain Lions of Sara Harp Minter Elementary are a loving and generous bunch. As part of National Kindness Month, kindergarteners hosted a supply drive for the dogs and cats at Royal Animal Refuge.

While performing acts of kindness around the school, kindergarten students decided they wanted to expand with a community service project to really help the community. They settled on Royal Animal Refuge and gathered food, leashes, toys, and towels to donate for the adoptable dogs and cats. Melissa Edwards, a 2nd grade teacher at the school and an active volunteer at Royal, chipped in and delivered all the goodies.

“Students understood showing kindness should be a part of their everyday life,” said kindergarten teacher Susan Gittins. “Showing kindness to animals proved to be a rewarding experience. These young students surely made a difference in the lives of these animals!”
