SkillsUSA students advancing to State Leadership and Skills Conference


SkillsUSA members from three of Fayette’s high schools will put their technical skills to the test in 10 different career competitions as they compete against the best of the best in the state at the Georgia SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in February.

Students who place first, second or third in their career competitions at the regional level are eligible to compete at the state level. A total of 19 students from Fayette County High, Sandy Creek High and Starr’s Mill High schools qualified for the state contest during the virtual Region 4 competition January 20.

Students who placed at the regional competition are as follows: (Fayette County High) Jacob Morgan, second place, Automotive Service Technology; Rayondra Wilson, third place, Extemporaneous Speaking; Austin Jones, second place, Job Skill Demo A; Cole Gumerson, first place, Job Skill Demo Open; (Sandy Creek High) Arianna Simpson, second place, Ad Design; Kaila Hudson, second place, Extemporaneous Speaking; Jya Lee Tidwell, third place, Job Interview; Tyler Eason, first place, Job Skill Demo A; Caleb Dykes, first place, Pin Design; Lindsey Ochoa, second place, Prepared Speech; Abby Paver, first place, T-Shirt Design; (Starr’s Mill High) Madison Price, second place, Job Interview.

Additionally, Sandy Creek High placed third in Quiz Bowl at the regional level. The students on the team are Chris Chavez, Dain Dais, Aniya Eason, Austin Hall, Kerstina Johnson, Ginny Phan, and Farah Safawi.

The State Leadership and Skills Conference will take place February 24-26 at the World Congress Center in Atlanta.
