Rising Starr Middle likes to put learning into motion. Students in Melissa Knowles’s literacy class were tasked with building a clean energy car that transports material to help reduce emissions as a culminating activity applying the engineering process.

For the “cars,” students built balloon-powered creations that could transport pennies as part of their STEM focus.

Knowles was proud to see her students respond to the challenging task.

“Although not all of them worked, students were engaged and enjoyed seeing each other’s designs and the ‘cars’ in action on testing day.”
