Did you know that scientists have found that the world is 71% water and 29% land? The 6th graders at Rising Starr Middle know!

Students in Jamie Carson’s science class did some hands-on learning to determine what percentage of the Earth is water. They paired up and tossed an inflatable globe into the air. Wherever their right thumb landed, they made a tally to see if it was land or water. Each partner completed the task 50 times, then they added the water and land tallies together.

Many of the students came close to the correct 71/29 percentage.
