There has been a change to the Tyrone Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration to be held on Nov. 29. The event will be held the same day, though the change includes a new location in the Roger Spence building on Commerce Drive.

The change in plans, from the customary site at Shamrock Park, is due to the forecast that calls for potentially heavy rains and due to performers dropping out of the event due to Covid-19 concerns.

Town Manager Brandon Perkins said the event will now be held inside the Roger Spencer building (145 Commerce Drive) as a “drop in” from 6-8 p.m.

Families are encouraged to stop by during that timeframe for photos with Santa, and Circa will be on-site offering coffee, cocoa and cookies.

Recreation staff will have socially distanced marked spots for the Santa line and we ask participants to please wear a mask while in line, Perkins said.

The actual lighting of the tree will be live-streamed on Facebook between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
