A Peachtree City man was arrested on June 24 for attempting to strangle his girlfriend while she slept.

Jared R. Bowman, 31, was charged with aggravated assault, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Peachtree City Police Department spokesman Chris Hyatt said officers at approximately 6:30 p.m. were called to a domestic incident at a residence on Southern Shore Drive off Kedron Drive.

Hyatt said Bowman and his girlfriend were at the home of a relative at the time of the incident.

Bowman had become intoxicated and, while his girlfriend was asleep, he been strangling her, said Hyatt.

Hyatt said the girlfriend broke free and called 911.
