Here’s the Covid-19 pandemic report from the Georgia Department of Public Health for midday, April 2:
Total test-confirmed cases statewide: 5,348, which is 719 more than the previous day’s number of 4,638, an increase of 15.3%.
Statewide deaths: 163, an increase of 24 fatalities over the previous day’s 139, which is 17.2% higher than the April 1 report
State Covid-19 death rate: 3.05% of all confirmed cases reported
Fayette County: Confirmed infections — 52 with 4 deaths
Coweta County: Confirmed infections — 44 with 2 deaths
Hospitalized: 1,056, which is 19.75% of the total confirmed cases, compared to 952 in hospitals on April 1, an increase of 104 newly hospitalized patients (10.9% over the previous day) across the state of Georgia.
Total coronavirus tests: 22,957 by private and state labs, which represents 2,631 more tests than the 20,326 tests one day earlier.
Total positive tests: 5,348 so far with all testing, a positive confirmation rate of 23.2% of the total tests administered.
Here’s what the raw numbers of new hospital patients and the corresponding rates of hospitalization increase day over day looks like:
• March 26 — 79 new patients, 20% increase;
• March 27 — 93 new patients, 19.9% increase;
• March 28 — 51 new patients, 9% increase;
