U.S. News & World Report ranking: McIntosh is 20th in the state, 543 nationwide —
The 2019 nationwide ranking of the Best High Schools by U.S. News and World Report has all five of Fayette County public high schools scoring in the Top 100 in Georgia, with McIntosh High at No. 20 in Georgia and No. 543 nationwide.
The ranking of more than 23,000 public high school nationwide is based on variables such as math and reading proficiency, graduation rate and those having taken at least one AP exam and having passed at least one AP exam.
McIntosh received a state rank at No. 20 and a national rank at No. 543, with a graduation rate of 92 percent.
Starr’s Mill High School received a state ranking at No. 27 and a national ranking at No. 791. Starr’s Mill High has a graduation rate of 94 percent.
Whitewater High School was ranked No. 41 in Georgia and No. 1,853 nationwide. Whitewater’s graduation rate is 92 percent.
Fayette County High School had a state ranking at No. 74 and a national ranking of No. 3,290. The graduation rate at Fayette County High is 86 percent.
Sandy Creek High School ranked No. 97 in Georgia and No. 4,098 nationwide. Sandy Creek’s graduation rate is 83 percent.
In terms of Georgia’s top ranked school, Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology was ranked No. 1 and No. 6 nationwide.
Rounding out the top 10 in Georgia were:
• Columbus High in Gwinnett County at No. 2, and at No. 85 nationwide
• Davidson Magnet School in Richmond County at No. 3, and at No. 107 nationwide
• Walton High in Cobb County at No. 4, and at No. 161 nationwide
• Northview High in Fulton County at No. 5, and at No. 226 nationally
• Lambert High in Forsyth County at No. 6, and at No. 229 nationwide
• Savannah Arts Academy in Chatham County at No. 7, and at No. 231 nationwide
• DeKalb School of the Arts in DeKalb County at No. 8, and at No. 262 nationally
• Chattahoochee High in Fulton County at No. 9, and at No. 282 nationwide
• Lassiter High in Cobb County at No. 10, and at No. 324 nationally.
