James Claude Conley, 77, of Sharpsburg, Ga. passed away on April 22, 2019 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
James was born in Atlanta to Carl and Carolyn Conley, on September 23, 1941. He graduated from Russell High School in 1959. He married Margaret Purcell on July 27, 1963, in Atlanta at Perkerson Baptist Church. He attended West Georgia College for two years and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1963. James began his teaching career at North Clayton Junior High. He later taught at Westwood High School which became Westlake High School, and retired in 1994, after 30 years of teaching and coaching. In retirement, he worked a variety of part-time jobs including Armada Vans and American Van Rental companies.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn, and his father Carl. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his four children; John Conley, Melinda (Mark) Justice, Stephen (Shannon) Conley, Elisabeth (Tyler) Smith; brother, Brad Conley; and six grandchildren, Garrett and Megan Justice, Esther, Jonas, and Isaac Conley, and Emersyn Smith.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Faith Bible Church in Sharpsburg, with burial immediately following at College Park Cemetery. The family received visitors Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City.
