Three men were arrested in Fayetteville near midnight on Jan. 14, and charged with attempting to steal catalytic converters from vehicles.
Jacquez H. Solomon, 24, of College Park, was charged with possession of tools for the commission of a crime, obstruction, two counts of theft by taking, fleeing or attempting to elude, loitering or prowling, reckless driving and obedience to a traffic control device, according to Fayette County Jail records.
Deandre R. King, 23, of Snellville, was charged with second degree criminal damage to property, loitering or prowling, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, obstruction and fleeing or attempting to elude, jail records said.
Demario R. Hollie, 23, of Atlanta, was charged with obstruction, theft by taking, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, second degree criminal damage to property, loitering or prowling and fleeing or attempt to elude, according to jail records.
Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies patrolling on Ga. Highway 85 near Ga. Highway 279 saw a man walking quickly toward a car that was backed into a parking space. The deputy also saw what appeared to be a person rolling on the ground, as if moving sneakily toward a vehicle.
Babb said a vehicle at the scene pulled out and accelerated quickly after the two people entered the car.
The car headed southbound on Hwy. 85, running red lights and attempted to turn onto Banks Road, but struck a guide wire attached to a utility pole, Babb said.
Four males exited the car after the crash, with three of them subsequently apprehended and taken into custody, said Babb.
A search of the car revealed a cutting tool and jacks, Babb said, adding that investigators checked the vehicles where the men had been located and found that one of the vehicles had cut marks near the catalytic converter. Babb also noted that evidence was found on the ground.
2 suspects arrested for Sprint store burglary
Two men were arrested in early morning hours on Jan. 17 on charges of burglarizing the Sprint store on Ga. Highway 85 North in Fayetteville.
Santeze D. Williams, 22, of Jonesboro, and Decardo L. Glenn, 21, of Decatur, were charged with second degree burglary, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, according to Fayeville Police Department spokesman Chad Myers.
Myers said police responded to an alarm call shortly before 4 a.m., finding the store’s glass door shattered and no one on the premises.
The quick review of the store’s video provided a description of two men in the store dressed in black, armed and carrying a pry bar. Officers subsequently put out a description of the men.
Myers said several drawers had been damaged, but nothing appeared to be missing.
Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies on Ga. Highway 92 North just minutes after the burglary observed a vehicle near New Hope Road driving without headlights. The vehicle was pulled over, with Williams and Glenn subsequently taken into custody without incident.
Campers, storage units hit by thieves
The period of Jan. 11-18 came with several vehicles and storage units at a storage facility on Ga. Highway 74 South in Peachtree City entered on Jan. 13.
An RV at the location was forcibly entered with multiple tools stolen. Also forcibly entered was an RV that had only change stolen, according to Peachtree City Police Department reports.
Another report dealt with two recreational trailers that were entered, with nothing stolen.
A separate report noted a camper forced open, but with nothing stolen, reports said.
Another vehicle had a forced entry, with headsets stolen, reports said.
A final entering auto was reported Jan. 14 at a business on Lexington Pass. The front passenger window was smashed and a purse was stolen, according to reports.
In unincorporated Fayette County there were two entering auto incidents reported during the period.
One of the incidents was reported Jan. 11 at the Kenwood Landing Mobile Home Park off Milam Road. The resident reported that a rear window had been smashed and her purse stolen from the back seat, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said the second incident was reported at a residence on Peters Road in north Fayette on Jan. 12.
The resident said he saw a SUV pull up near his driveway, then soon saw it leave heading east toward Ga. Highway 138.
The resident later went outside and found the driver’s door ajar and his wallet missing from under the driver’s seat, Babb said.
Man charged with thefts from 11 Fayette autos
An Atlanta man on Jan. 14 was charged with 11 entering autos off Ga. Highway 279 in October.
Shaun W. Bapp, 22, was charged in the incidents that occurred at the Stillbrook Estates subdivision, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said investigators linked the entering auto incidents to Bapp and arrested him after an interview.
Babb said additional charges relating to entering auto are pending.
