19 broken into across Fayette

A rash of entering auto incidents occurred in north and central unincorporated Fayette County during Oct. 13-17. A total of 19 vehicles were entered, and one stolen, in areas off Helmer Road and Ginger Cake Road.

Ten vehicles were reported entered on Oct. 17 at residences on Stillbrook Way, Shimmering Waters Lane, Broadwater Drive and Longmeadow Court, all off Helmer Road in northeast Fayette.

Sheriff Barry Babb said all of the vehicles were unlocked.

While a number of the vehicles were rummaged through, there were a number of items stolen. Among those were backpacks, a cell phone, debit and credit cards and cash, said Babb.

In one of the cases, the owner had lottery tickets stolen, with Babb noting that the owner found the tickets in an adjacent yard. The lottery tickets had been scratched and included no winning numbers.

There were nine vehicles reported entered on Oct. 13 and 14 on Raymond Court, Ginger Cake Trail and Ponderosa Drive, all off Ginger Cake Road in the vicinity of Graves Road.

Babb said all the vehicles were unlocked, with most only rummaged through.

Among the items stolen were a handgun and phone chargers. A briefcase stolen from one of the vehicles was later found in the street.

In one incident, a 2012 Kia Soul at a residence on Raymond Court was stolen, along with a laptop, iPod, clothing, a backpack and a space heater. Babb said the vehicle was unlocked and the keys were in the vehicle.

In another incident, a bag containing items such as two laptops, an iPad, a passport and credit cards and another bag containing clothing were stolen while the homeowner was packing the vehicle for a trip. The bag containing clothes was found laying on a nearby street, Babb said.

As is customary, Babb strongly recommended that vehicles never be left unlocked, whether at home or in the community, and valuables never be left in plain sight.
