Funds to pay for design plans for a roundabout at New Hope Road and Brogdon Road northwest of Fayetteville were approved Aug. 9 by the Fayette County Commission.
Addressing the 2017 SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) project, Public Works Director Phil Mallon said a roundabout provides major safety improvements, keeps traffic flowing and addresses future traffic growth.
The anticipated cost of the roundabout is $958,899, which includes a 20 percent contingency. The project was previously budgeted at $1.2 million.
The vote to approve $77,500 for the roundabout design was 4-0. Commissioner Steve Brown was absent.
