The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating an individual posing as a law enforcement officer in south Fayette County as a result of a July 26 incident.
According to investigators, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on July 26, a 17-year-old female was pulled over at the West McIntosh Road-Grant Road intersection near Brooks by a dark-colored vehicle with two flashing blue lights.
A black male in his early 30’s, dressed in dark gray or black sweat-workout clothing approached her vehicle and attempted to engage the victim in conversation. She immediately realized by his appearance and comments he was impersonating an officer. She drove away unharmed and arrived home safely and reported the incident, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to know that if a deputy makes a traffic stop they will identify themselves and the reason for the traffic stop. They will have proper identification displayed. If someone feels the encounter is suspicious, call 911 and verify that the stop is legitimate.
