A Fayetteville man was arrested June 29 on assault charges after choking his father while demanding money.
Elijah S. Varner, 29, (photo above) was charged with aggravated assault, simple battery-family violence, elder abuse and robbery, according to Fayette County Jail records.
Sheriff Barry Babb said the incident involved Varner and his 78-year-old father when he demanded $200. Varner shoved his father on the bed and tried to choke him, said Babb.
Varner left the residence and was spotted in Fayetteville and detained by deputies at approximately 11 p.m.
