The Toys R Us store in Fayetteville and the Babies R Us in Newnan have been a fixture on the retail landscape. Those stores, along with 180 others, will be closing as part of the company’s chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan.
The announcement to close 182 stores, including those locally, came after the company filed for bankruptcy protection. Toys R Us is expected to decrease its number of stores by approximately 20 percent, according to usatoday.com.
Regarding the announcement, Toys R Us Chief Executive Dave Brandon said, “The reinvention of our brands requires that we make tough decisions about our priorities and focus.”
Going-out-of-business sales are scheduled to begin in February and be completed in April, usatoday.com said.
Toys R Us in Fayetteville is located at the Fayette Pavilion. The Babies R Us store in Newnan is located at Ashley Park.
