A Peachtree City man faces charges from a July traffic accident in east Coweta County that claimed the lives of a Newnan couple.

Andrew J. Wiemann, 28, was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI less safe, reckless driving and running a red light, according to Coweta County Jail records.

The July 29 traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 34 in east Coweta County, claiming the lives of Newnan couple Thomas Mayo, 58, and Pamela Mayo, 57, who died at the scene.

The report by Ga. State Patrol Trooper Sgt. Katie Thompson after the incident said an Infiniti driven by Wiemann was traveling westbound in the left lane of Hwy. 54 shortly before 9 p.m.

Wiemann approached the intersection while the Mayo’s Ford Escape was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 34 and attempting to make a left turn into the NCG Cinemas parking lot.

Thompson said the Infiniti traveled through the red light and struck the passenger side of the Escape, resulting in the Escape traveling off the north side of the roadway.

The Infiniti continued to travel west, coming to a stop in the right lane then becoming engulfed in flames, the report said.
