Dennis Mitchell “Denny” Schmidt, 72, of Sharpsburg, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was born May 2, 1945 in Saginaw, Mich., to the late James Mitchell Schmidt and Esther Arft Schmidt.
Denny was a 1967 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He retired from Delta Air Lines after 33 years of service. In retirement, he became a Charter Coordinator for Delta Global Services and saw many of the world’s “garden spots.” He was a lifelong avid gardener, a Braves fan, and a lover of all things feline. Denny was a charter member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Richard James Schmidt.
Denny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Wilkinson Schmidt; son, Brian Mitchell Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Brooke; grandchildren, Reid Mitchell and Audra Louise; brother-in-law, Gordon Wilkinson; sister-in-law, Jeanene Schmidt; and nephew, James Richard Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 101 North Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree City, with Reverend Fritz Wiese and Reverend John Weber officiating. The family will greet friends at 10 a.m. prior to the service. A reception will follow the service.
