The report of suspicious activity by an alert resident led to the April 23 arrest of three people in connection to a burglary in east Fayette County.
Donnel J. Alves, 21, of Gainesville, was charged with burglary, loitering or prowling, drug-related objects, drug possession, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon during a crime and less than an ounce of marijuana, according to Fayette County Jail records.
Afahri A. Kerr, 25, of Fayetteville, was charged with burglary, less than an ounce of marijuana and loitering or prowling, jail records said.
A third person, a juvenile, was also taken into custody, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said the incident unfolded when a man walking his dog at approximately 6 a.m. on Pleasant Pointe Way near McDonough Road called 911 about a suspicious vehicle.
Deputies responding to the scene contacted the three occupants, who said their vehicle had broken down and that they had been in the location for the past four hours, said Babb.
Detecting the odor of marijuana, the three were asked to exit the vehicle belonging to Alves, Babb said.
A search of Alves revealed a loaded 9mm handgun and a search of the vehicle revealed 9mm rounds, burned marijuana, a digital scale with white powder and a bag of 9mm rounds, all of which Alves said belonged to him, said Babb.
Deputies also found a spare car battery, clothes and tools in the trunk.
The three were taken in to be interviewed. Upon arriving at the sheriff’s office, deputies learned that the owner of a Pleasant Pointe Way residence had called in a stolen car battery, said Babb.
