Smash-and-grabbers fire 2 shots, apartment resident shoots back; nobody hit, no injuries and no arrests yet
A resident at the Weatherly Walk Apartments off Ga. Highway 54 East in Fayetteville confronted two men breaking into vehicles on March 10. They fired two shots at the resident and he fired off a round of his own. No one was injured in the incident.
Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Mike Whitlow said the incident occurred on March 10 at approximately 4 a.m. when a resident was leaving for work.
The man found a window in his vehicle smashed and subsequently saw two men rummaging through other vehicles.
“He yelled at them, and they both produced handguns and fired one round each at the resident,” Whitlow said. “The resident returned fire with one round.”
Two bullets were recovered by investigators, said Whitlow, adding that no one was hurt in the gunfire exchange.
In total there were seven vehicles entered, all by smashing windows. Aside from miscellaneous items, the only thing of value known to have been stolen to date was a laptop computer, Whitlow said.
Whitlow said the two men left the area in a white SUV.
Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-461-4441.
