At a recent meeting Fayette Daybreak Rotary Club members enjoyed a presentation by Olympic gold medalist and Peachtree City resident Ralph Boston.

Boston was a three-time medal winner in the long jump – gold in Rome in 1960, silver in Tokyo in 1964 and bronze in Mexico City in 1968. He broke the record then held by Jesse Owens and became the first man to jump 27 feet. He was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1974.

After he spoke, he was asked if he would be the starter for the upcoming Tyrone Founders Day Race, and he agreed.

The 2016 Tyrone Founders Day 5k run and 1-mile walk is part of the week-long festival held each fall. This year’s race is Saturday, Oct. 8, with registration at 7:30 a.m., the walk at 8:15 and the 5k road race at 8:30.
