Betty Jane Jorgensen, 71, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed to eternal life on September 10, 2016, following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on September 27, 1944 in Salinas, Calif. Betty was raised in Seattle, Wash., graduating from West Seattle High School, followed by attendance at the University of Washington. Betty joined United Airlines as a flight attendant, flying both domestic and international routes for over 30 years from her Chicago base.

Betty was a lover of the arts, sewing, her garden, cats, and most importantly, her God and church. She positively impacted many lives through her selfless service to many causes and groups. Betty’s approach to life was governed by two principals. First, each of us should be of continuous service to others while taking an occasional break to “refresh.” Second, all organizations should adopt and follow a “spirit of rotation” for those in leadership positions – get others involved and let everyone grow. The legacy of her efforts and contributions will be treasured by many for years to come.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Jane Hensel and her birth father, John Ingham.

She is survived by her husband of over 25 years, COL Michael D. Jorgensen; sister, Candace D. Berg; nieces, Alyssa Hagen and Emelyn Berg; nephew, Brody Berg; their spouses and children; and an extended family of beautiful cousins, flying partners, and friends. A Rosary will be held for Betty on Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 152 Antioch Road, Fayetteville, Ga., 30215 at 7 p.m. The family will meet friends prior to and following the Rosary.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Betty on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City, Ga. at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Building Funds of either St. Gabriel Catholic Church or Holy Trinity Catholic Church, at the appropriate address indicated above, in Betty’s name.
