Fayetteville First United Methodist Church partnered with Stop Hunger Now and topped 100,000 total meals in its fourth year of participation in a food packing event. More than 160 volunteers gathered to package 35,000 meals in two hours on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 28. Stop Hunger Now is a volunteer-based food packaging program which provides highly nutritious dehydrated meals to crisis areas and school feeding programs worldwide.

After sharing a simple meal together at noon in the Fellowship Hall, the congregation and friends gathered in the Family Life Center to begin packing process.

“Volunteers of all ages are enthusiastic about this event as every helper from four years old to those in their 80s do something important for other people around the world,” commented the Rev. Carolyn Clifton, associate minister. “Funds to purchase the meals were raised as our Lenten offering in the spring. Stop Hunger Now anticipates that the meals will be used in a school feeding program in Belize.”

The church is at 175 East Lanier Ave., next to the historic courthouse in downtown Fayetteville.
