The first ever Student Leadership Conference came to Fayetteville recently linking students in Fayetteville and south Atlanta to other students across the southeast, as more than 300 gathered for student leadership training June 30 – July 2 at Fayetteville First Baptist and Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.

Organized by nationally recognized youth leader and author Doug Fields and Josh Griffin, high school pastor at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., the Student Leadership Conference offered a unique opportunity for students to expand their perspective by interacting with others who traveled from Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina and Texas.

Large and small group meetings were held on the campuses of Fayetteville First Baptist and Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in a joint partnership. This is the first time to have anything of this scope in the Fayette  area.

“We have been seeking a conference like this on the south side of Atlanta for some time,” explained FFUMC’s youth minister Chris Mucha. “Our students have gained skills in what it means to be a servant leader. With the theme ‘Show Up,’ they learned that 80 percent of being a leader is showing up. We hope this will be the start of many new opportunities to come to our area.”
