A conceptual site plan for a portion of the Problem Solved Treathouse commercial bakery off Ga. Highway 74 South in Peachtree City received unanimous approval on April 11 from the Peachtree City Planning Commission.
Commissioners heard the proposal to establish what is eventually planned to be a 107,000 sq. ft. warehouse located adjacent to the Southern Ground building at Hwy. 74 South and Gardner Park. The new commercial and warehouse building is expected to be constructed at the rear of the current building with an access off Hwy. 74 South.
Architect Jefferson Browne told commissioners the first portion of the planned two-building site, the portion of the project that was up for a vote, involves a 15,000 sq. ft. gluten-free bakery and could include retail sales. The expansion of the new building, along with a second building and additional parking, is planned for a future date, Browne said.
Browne said the idea is to supply food and baked goods for Camp Southern Group, a project of country singing artist Zac Brown designed to be a summer camp for disabled kids.
City staff noted that the tract is zoned G1 (general industrial) and that office and bakery services are permitted. The applicant has been notified that retail sales are not permitted within the G1 zoning district and that the property would need to be rezoned to permit that use, staff said.
Browne said a part of the plan is to provide an educational component so residents can see the manufacturing process.
The two-story building will be constructed largely of glass and laminated timber, said Browne, adding that the plan is to have it look like a sculpture.
Parking and greenspace will be located between the two proposed buildings. Commissioners approved an initial 75 parking spaces.
The new business is expected to employ 50 people, said Browne.
