The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced April 8 through a press release that Fayette County received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

This award is in recognition for the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“This award is a reflection of the excellent financial stewardship and management of our CFO, Mary Parrott, and her finance team,” said county manager Steve Rapson.

The announcement further states that an award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the individual(s), department or agency designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. This award has been presented to the Fayette County Finance Department.

“This marks the 23rd consecutive year achieving this award for Fayette County. Finance members work together in a team effort, setting this award as a standard to continue the tradition” said Parrott.

“The Certificate of Achievement is indicative of the care and extra effort put forth by our Finance Department in fulfilling our fiduciary responsibility to the citizens of Fayette County,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Charles Oddo.

The designation of these awards demonstrates a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.
