Georgia Department of Transportation projects to improve highway infrastructure throughout metro Atlanta continue this weekend, weather permitting. Construction on the I-75 Express Lanes and I-285 will require lane closures, which, in turn, are likely to result in delays. Motorists are advised to exercise caution by reducing speed while driving through work zones.

The traveling public is encouraged to call 511 or consult 511ga.org  before departing for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.

Planned work this weekend is as follows:

Northwest Corridor Express Lanes

· On I-285, traffic traveling on the eastbound collector-distributer lane to I-75 northbound will be directed to take the I-75 southbound exit ramp (Exit 20) to Cumberland Boulevard. Traffic will then be directed to turn left on Cumberland Boulevard followed by another left to then enter I-75 Northbound via the ramp from Cumberland Boulevard. The I-75 southbound ramp to I-285 eastbound Collector Lanes (Exit-259A) will also be closed, and traffic will need to take the primary ramp (Exit-259) to access I-285 eastbound from I-75 southbound. The detour will take place nightly from 10 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Sunday (see attached map).

· One lane will close on the I-285 westbound ramp to I-75 northbound nightly from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Sunday.

· On I-285, two westbound lanes will close at the I-75 interchange from 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday.

· On I-575, one northbound lane will close between Bells Ferry Road and SR 92/Alabama Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday.

· On I-75, two southbound lanes will close between SR 120 Loop/ South Marietta Parkway and SR 280/Delk Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday.

· On I-75, two southbound lanes will close between SR 280/Delk Road and Windy Hill Road from 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday.

· On I-75, one northbound and one southbound lane will close between Chastain Road and Wade Green Road from 8 p.m., Friday and 5 a.m., Saturday.

· On I-75, a traffic pace will occur on the southbound lanes between SR 120 Loop/South Marietta Parkway and Windy Hill Road from 9 p.m., Sunday until 5 a.m., Monday. The traffic pace will require motorists to drive 5 mph -10 mph to allow contractors to work across the interstate lanes.

South Metro Express Lanes

· On I-75, one northbound and one southbound lane and shoulder will close between the I-675 interchange and Mt. Zion Boulevard continuously from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for the northbound lane and from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 a.m., Monday for the southbound lane.

· On I-75, one northbound lane will close between SR 20/SR 81/ Hampton Road and Jonesboro Road continuously from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday.

I-75

· Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane will close between SR 120 Loop/ South Marietta Parkway and SR 120 Loop/ North Marietta Parkway from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 p.m., Saturday.

· The entrance loop to I-75 southbound from Windy Hill Road will close and three right lanes will close at Windy Hill Road on I-75 from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday.

Rolling closures will take place on the northbound and southbound lanes between SR 138 and Cumberland Boulevard. The closures will take place from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Sunday to allow crews to install road pavement markers (RPM). Installing RPMs on the interstate is a slow moving operation; therefore, Georgia DOT contractors will subsequently slow down traffic traveling on I-75 to complete their work. Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at a time and slow down while driving through the work zone.

· One eastbound and one westbound lane will close at SR 6/ Camp Creek parkway from 9 p.m., Friday until 12 p.m., Sunday

· One eastbound and one westbound lane will close at Cascade Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 12 p.m., Sunday

· On the southwest side of the Perimeter, two northbound lanes will close between the I-20 interchange (exit 10) and SR 280/ South Cobb Drive from 6 a.m., until 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
