Peachtree City Recreation and Special Events recently hosted a Volunteer/Sponsor Appreciation Dinner at the Kedron Fieldhouse to honor its 2015 supporters.

Mayor Vanessa Fleisch welcomed the guests and thanked them for their dedication.  City Manager Jon Rorie and several City Council members were also in attendance to share their appreciation of the city’s supporters.

Guest speaker Leah Thomson, former vice-chairman of the PTC Recreation and Special Events Advisory Board, recognized the volunteers and sponsors for their giving spirit.

“It says a lot about you and your companies, but it also says that you believe in our city, and our community,” said Thomson. “The city cannot do what it needs to do without you. That means you are invaluable…you can and do make a difference.”

After Thomson addressed the attendees, Recreation and Special Events Administrator Cajen Rhodes presented the “Outstanding Volunteer of 2015 Award” to George Martin of the PTC Running Club and PTC Rotary Club.  Rhodes described Martin as the “go-to guy” for all run/walk events, as well as other special events, such as the annual Dragon Boat Races.

Over fifty people attended the appreciation dinner, including the volunteers who serve on the Recreation and Special Events Advisory Board, citizens who served on the Spray Park Exploratory Committee, Police Auxiliary volunteers, event volunteers, and representatives from local businesses who have sponsored events.  For more information about volunteering with the Recreation and Special Events Department, visit www.peachtree-city.org/recreation.
