Peachtree City author Victoria Wilcox (Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday) was surprised with a new award from True West Magazine.

Wilcox, author of the historical fiction trilogy, Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday, was selected by True West Magazine as the Best Historical Western Novelist for 2016. Past winners include Larry McMurtry, author of Lonesome Dove. True West is the premiere magazine about the history and lifestyle of the Old West and written by a staff of experts and historians.  Wilcox has also been twice selected as Georgia Author of the Year.

Southern Son (Knox Robinson Publishing) offers a fresh literary look at an American legend whose years spanned some of the most exciting events in American history. From the Old South to the Wild West and the edge of the modern era, Doc Holliday’s story has it all – and it’s never all been told until now.

Inheritance, book one, explores the early days of John Henry Holliday, who was a Southern son, born in Georgia in the last days of the Old South with family links to Gone With the Wind. Book two, Gone West, explores how a gentleman becomes an outlaw, how an outlaw becomes a lawman, and how a Southern son named John Henry becomes a legend called Doc Holliday. The Last Decision, the final book in the trilogy, is the culmination of a life of risk, recompense, and the redeeming power of love, of the making of legends, and the making of a hero.

Wilcox is founding director of the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum in Fayetteville, where she discovered the story that led to Southern Son. She spent 18 years researching and writing about Doc Holliday, which took her from Griffin, Georgia to the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona and made her a nationally known expert. Wilcox is featured as the Doc Holliday historian on the Fox Network’s “Legends & Lies: The Real West,” a docudrama series produced by Bill O’Reilly.
